Dr. Alang is a health services researcher. Her work addresses the social determinants of health and health services using health justice as a framework. She explores how structures and institutions heal and harm us. Because communities closest to the pain of legacies of oppression know the solutions, Dr. Alang works to develop and strengthen academic-community partnerships necessary to eliminate health inequities using community-based participatory action approaches that center radical welcome.
Dr. Alang was born and raised in Cameroon, but lives in Pittsburgh, PA, where she is Professor of Black Communities and the Social Determinants of Health in the Department of Health and Human Developmemt (School of Education) and in the Department of Health Policy and Management (School of Public Health).
