C1.01 - Oral Session: From Local Roots to Global Solidarity: Building Reciprocal Professional Networks to Advance Health Equity

Brief Abstract Summary: This session moves beyond “local-to-global” models to spotlight reciprocal partnerships by using case studies to illustrate pathways for cross-cultural exchange, mentorship, and professional development. In today's challenging political climate, health educators working to advance health equity need broad networks of support and solidarity. Students, early career professionals, faculty, and practitioners will leave the session with practical strategies for building and growing resilient and diverse international connections.

Detailed abstract description: In an era of increasing global complexity, the work of health education is more critical than ever. Widening health disparities, systemic inequities, and the rapid spread of misinformation demand innovative, collaborative solutions that transcend borders. This highly interactive deep dive session directly addresses the conference theme, "Local Roots, Global Impact," by exploring the power of international networks to foster social justice and health equity.

We will challenge the conventional one-way "local to global" narrative, instead focusing on reciprocal exchange and mutual learning. What can health educators in North America learn from counterparts across the globe? Through a facilitated, interactive discussion, this session will use real-world case studies to demonstrate how international partnerships can provide both strategic and emotional support to practitioners and students.

Attendees will actively engage in analyzing diverse health education interventions, highlighting varied approaches to community health and the absence of a single global standard. We will explore practical models for creating sustainable collaboration and mentorship pipelines that connect seasoned and emerging professionals with leaders across different cultural contexts.
