Brief Abstract Summary: Discover Editors' secrets to navigating the publishing landscape and publishing with impact. During this session, participants can expect to learn best practices for disseminating health education and health promotion work directly from one Editor and two board leaders of SOPHE's peer-reviewed journals —Health Education & Behavior, Health Promotion Practice, and Pedagogy in Health Promotion. SOPHE’s premier peer-reviewed journals provide platforms for authoritative work to advance our field strategically and purposefully. To support and encourage prospective authors, the overall goal of this interactive session is to share and discuss best practices for health educators, researchers, and policymakers to publish their work in professional and scientific journals. The Editor and board leaders will discuss each journal's mission and scope, how publishing advances our field and fosters power for social change, and the importance of disseminating the work of health education and promotion changemakers.

Detailed abstract description: Elevating current and novel health education and health promotion practice, pedagogy, policy, and research is essential to the advancement of the art and science of health promotion and disease prevention. SOPHE’s premier peer-reviewed journals provide platforms for authoritative work to advance our field strategically and purposefully. To support and encourage prospective authors, the overall goal of this interactive session is to share and discuss best practices for health educators, researchers, and policymakers to publish their work in professional and scientific journals. An Editor and two board leaders of SOPHE’s three journals — Health Education & Behavior, Health Promotion Practice, and Pedagogy in Health Promotion — will discuss each journal's mission and scope, how publishing advances our field and fosters power for social change, and the importance of disseminating the work of health education and promotion changemakers. They will explain their process and what they look for in submitted papers, emphasizing the relevance of paper titles and abstracts in the publication consideration process. They will also review examples to illustrate how to write effective paper titles and abstracts aligned with journal priorities. This will be an interactive session, and participants are encouraged to bring sample titles and abstracts to serve as examples. Participants will be encouraged to share their ideas in small groups and discuss any questions they may have related to the publishing process.
