Alexis Smith (she/her) is a 4th year doctoral candidate in the Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences department at the Rollins School of Public Health. She is originally from Dothan, Alabama and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in Social Anthropology and Global Health and Master of Public Health in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Before coming to Emory, Alexis worked at the Equal Justice Initiative where she provided project and research support for EJI’s education and racial justice initiatives. Her current research interests include 1) understanding how historical and structural determinants of health inequities shape the health outcomes of oppressed communities and 2) uplifting the ways in which communities respond to racism and structural violence through their networks and ethics of care.
