Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Participants will analyze the Vision of You technology innovations for adolescent sexual health education programming and assess how technology can benefit adolescents they serve.
Participants will identify three strategies for incorporating technology into their adolescent sexual health education programming.
Participants will identify three innovative technology strategies used by the Vision of You program and explain how these strategies contribute to its demonstrated effectiveness
Brief Abstract Summary: Utilizing technology-based interventions to provide health education to youth is a growing movement demonstrating promise to reduce risky sexual behavior in adolescents, yet few programs effectively translate technological techniques such as gamification, engaging videos and animation through online modules to effectively engage young people. Participants will explore how Vision of You fills this gap for high school aged students and explore how they might positively engage technology to ensure all students have access to engaging, medically accurate and inclusive sexual health education.
Detailed abstract description: Vision of You is an interactive, self-paced online sexuality education program that uses engaging videos, animation and gamified learning modules to provide information and skills to participants. Attendees will explore how Vision of You leverages technology to effectively share information and skills about sexually transmitted infections, contraception, healthy relationships, adolescent development, communication and consent. Participants will learn how Vision of You has been evaluated and implemented to reach resource-limited rural communities and transient youth such as student attending alternative schools and youth engaged in the juvenile justice system. Participants will discuss current technology they are utilizing in sexual health education, and engage in active discussions about the opportunities and challenges that technology presents to teaching adolescent sexual health programming.
